basic information
Mongongo oil is used by the Kalahari Bushmen to purify and moisturize the skin. Mongongo oil acts as a natural sunscreen, protecting against the harsh environment of the desert. Due to its content of eleostearic acid, mongongo nut oil serves as an excellent ingredient for shampoos and conditioners, forming a layer over hair fibers that protects against unfavorable conditions. 【Fatty Acids and Nutritional Components】 The seeds contain about 25% protein and approximately 57% fat. Of these fats, about 43% are polyunsaturated fatty acids (mostly linoleic acid), 17% are saturated fatty acids (palmitic acid and stearic acid), and about 18% are monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid). The seeds are rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin E – containing about 560mg per 100 grams of seeds (almost entirely as G-tocopherol). Due to its very high concentration of vitamin E (tocopherol), linoleic acid, and eleostearic acid, mongongo oil is extremely beneficial for skin protection.
