There are two types of taps used for tapping: cutting taps and forming taps. 【Cutting Tap】 It is made by cutting a thread groove into the inner surface of a cylinder. Since it involves "cutting out," a large amount of chips (cuttings) is generated. Although it requires less torque (rotational force) compared to forming taps, this method is not suitable for mass production because it involves removing the chips during processing, and it is mainly used for larger taps, typically M8 and above. 【Forming Tap】 It creates peaks instead of grooves by plastically deforming (bulging) the inner surface of the cylinder. Therefore, it does not generate chips (cuttings), making it suitable for mass production. However, it requires a significant amount of torque (rotational force) during processing, so it is often used for taps of M6 and below.
