[Research and Development Case] Advanced Machining of Hard-to-Cut Materials: Tungsten and Titanium
Introducing a case study on achieving advanced machining of hard-to-cut materials like tungsten and titanium.
We received a request from a semiconductor manufacturer stating, "We want to work with a hard material," and we took on the challenge of advanced processing of difficult-to-cut materials. Tungsten, which is used in projectiles due to its high density and hardness, and titanium, which has strength greater than steel, are considered difficult-to-cut materials. Tungsten itself is a material with extremely high hardness, used in high-end cutting tools. The customer's request was for "advanced processing of φ0.1mm tungsten." Wires made of hard materials have less flexibility, making them prone to breaking easily. Additionally, due to their hardness, they take longer to cut. Overcoming these challenges, Seirin's advanced processing technology successfully achieved the desired processing of the material as per the customer's request.
