Consideration of the results of the norovirus countermeasure test.

New Super M (CS-1500) Sterilizing Air Towel, a hand and finger sterilization device using a combination of hot air and UV-C lamp. Due to the circumstances of the testing institution, the measurement of the infectivity of the test virus was conducted using only the UV-C lamp. As a substitute virus for norovirus, which cannot be cultured in cells, we used feline calicivirus, recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), from the same family of vesivirus. As a result, the infectivity (number of viral particles) decreased by 99.9602% with 5 seconds of exposure and by 99.9998% with 10 seconds of exposure. In addition, the simultaneous exposure to high-temperature hot air at 135°C maximizes the effect. For norovirus prevention, it is important to thoroughly eliminate bacteria that lurk deep within the unique pores and wrinkles of the hands.
