The engine-specific thermal fluid analysis program 'CONVERGE' can not only simulate the flow, fuel injection, and combustion within the engine cylinder but also perform heat conduction analysis within the solid parts, coupling it with the thermal calculations of the fluid portion inside the cylinder. This is an example of simultaneous coupling of heat conduction analysis of the solid (metal) part of the piston with the flow, fuel injection, and combustion analysis within the engine cylinder. In conventional piston heat conduction analysis, boundary conditions on the inner side of the cylinder were mostly applied uniformly for evaluation. However, by solving the combustion state within the cylinder simultaneously, it becomes possible to dynamically provide temperature boundary conditions that are closer to reality, allowing for higher precision in thermal conduction analysis.
