The lotion polarizing prism consists of two birefringent α-BBO prisms that are glued together. The first prism, cut parallel to the optical axis, receives light, while the second prism, oriented perpendicular to the optical axis, transmits the ordinary ray, but the extraordinary ray is refracted. The lotion polarizing prism can be used to generate plane-polarized light.
