Introducing a case where we delivered a drum made of aluminum, which is essential for weight reduction, despite the difficulties in production requests!

Here is a case study of delivering aluminum drums. The design manager of our client was tasked with designing a drum structure for a winding machine based on user requirements. The drum was required to be made of aluminum for weight reduction, but there were specific manufacturing conditions. They searched for a manufacturer but faced rejections and were in a difficult situation. As a result, it took three months from the request to delivery, including the time spent searching for a vendor. 【Case Summary】 ■ The drum shape was ultimately formed by bending a 3mm thick plate into a circular shape and then machining it on a lathe (requested from a supplier). ■ Although hard chrome plating on aluminum materials is possible with plating companies in the three prefectures of Hokuriku, they declined due to the lack of a plating tank that could accommodate the size of φ515×400. ■ It was found that only three companies nationwide can handle this (having large plating tanks). ■ Two of these companies refused to take on even one piece, and the remaining company agreed to take it on after negotiations. ■ Including the period for searching for a supplier, it took three months from the request to delivery, during which various issues arose in production, but satisfaction was achieved from the client at the time of delivery. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
