The basic form of blow molding involves first using an extruder to melt and plasticize the resin into a cylindrical parison with a die and mandrel. This is then clamped in a mold, and air is blown in to adhere it to the inside of the mold for shaping. After cooling, excess parts are trimmed off. The trimmed sections are reused as material.
