Ink is placed on a pad plate (an object engraved with the design to be printed on a metal plate), and when scraped with a flat blade, the ink remains only on the design. This ink is then transferred using a pad (made of silicone, available in various shapes and sizes to match the design) and pressed onto the printing medium, causing the ink to peel off from the pad and print onto the surface.
