- The static penetration resistance of the soil is measured to assess its hardness or softness, as well as the composition of the soil layers, and is used for preliminary investigations or supplementary surveys such as boring for weak layers within a depth of 10 meters. - It is based on the JIS draft of the Japanese Geotechnical Society and is applicable to all soil layers excluding gravel as an auxiliary method for standard penetration tests.
