**[KD*P Pockels Cell]** - Commonly used in applications from UV to 1.1μm. - Usage in active cavities is limited due to absorption near 1.1μm. - Can be used at longer wavelengths if a few percent absorption is acceptable. **[LiNbO3 Pockels Cell]** - Used at longer wavelengths above 1064nm. - Pockels cells with an electric field set perpendicular to the light propagation direction can be driven at lower voltages than KD*P at 1064nm by selecting the thickness and length of the crystal. - The half-wave voltage becomes very high, but it is optimal for infrared light above 4.0μm. - Inrad Optics offers a damped LiNbO3 Pockels cell that dramatically reduces piezoelectric ringing, allowing for use at higher repetition frequencies. **[BBO Pockels Cell]** - Suitable for the wavelength range from UV to about 2μm. - The electro-optic coefficient is smaller than that of KD*P or LiNbO3, but it can be used at high average output. - BBO generally requires high voltage. - To keep the voltage conditions low, the crystal length is made longer and thinner (resulting in a smaller aperture size).
