basic information
In this function, the TG output of the MSA438TG is distributed to the device under test cable and the RF input of the MSA438TG via a DTF adapter. If there is a fault point in the device under test cable, the signal from the TG output will reflect back to the DTF adapter. Half of the reflected signal will reach the RF input through the DTF adapter. The RF input will receive a composite signal made up of this reflected signal and the input from the TG output. This signal will interfere constructively or destructively depending on the distance to the fault point and the frequency. As a result, peaks and valleys will continuously appear on the frequency axis, with the frequency corresponding to the distance to the fault point. When this frequency domain data is converted to time domain data using an inverse Fourier transform, the reflection from the fault point will appear as a peak. By multiplying the time of occurrence of this peak by the propagation speed, the distance to the fault point can be obtained. In this function, the values on the horizontal axis of the marker indicate distance instead of the usual frequency. Therefore, by moving the marker to the peak, the distance to the fault point can be read directly. This function performs this series of processes for each sweep.
