In the first place, the Legionella bacteria that live in the natural environment are present in low numbers, and their growth rate is slower compared to typical pathogenic bacteria, so they usually do not reach a quantity that would cause an infectious disease. However, in artificially managed bathing facilities, the circulation systems provide a temperature suitable for the proliferation of protozoa that harbor Legionella bacteria, and they can also obtain nutrients from dirt and other sources on bathers' bodies, making them the best place for these bacteria to thrive. If sterilization is thoroughly implemented, there is no risk of infection, but if even a little care is neglected, the Legionella bacteria can take over.
