Supporting bio-experiments at the ISS "Kibo" Japanese Experiment Module! Our portable medium exchange system has been reconfigured for space use and will be utilized as part of experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) in the fiscal year 2021. Instead of large robotic equipment, we have developed an automatic solution exchange device type 1 (Auto-Ex1) for cell culture experiments used by JAXA, based on the concept of "small and simple automation of medium exchange" using a small pump. This device is planned to be used for exchanging solutions such as media and reagents in cell culture experiments conducted at the ISS "Kibo" Japanese Experiment Module. Update on August 17, 2021: The Auto-Ex1 was launched on August 10, 2021, aboard the Cygnus resupply spacecraft from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia, USA, and successfully arrived at the ISS on August 12. It contributes to experiments aimed at understanding how cells sense gravity.
