We assist in creating products (kitchen and bathroom) through human-centered living engineering.
Based on the survey results regarding care facilities, we will introduce several points to consider when planning and designing equipment such as kitchens and washrooms.
[Investigation by Human and Life Engineering] In Kanagawa Prefecture, where a variety of elderly housing and facilities are concentrated, we conducted a survey on the current kitchen and washroom equipment conditions, as well as related shared facilities and services, focusing on service-equipped housing for the elderly, residential-type paid nursing homes, and some nursing homes with care. [Items to Consider When Determining Specifications for Care Kitchens and Washrooms] ■ Target Floor Area It is believed that the specifications for care kitchens and washrooms should be considered based on floor area rather than facility compatibility. The reason is that, at present, the age and physical condition of residents, as well as the usage and specifications of kitchens and washrooms, seem to be strongly related to the floor area. The floor area can be divided into three categories: - 18–20 square meters - 25–30 square meters - 35 square meters or more Considering the facility's adaptability and its relation to various systems, it is deemed wise and efficient to determine the specifications for new care kitchens and washrooms targeting 18–25 square meters. In the case of service-equipped housing for the elderly, the basic floor area is 25 square meters or more. However, if it is possible to secure an area of 7 (25-18) square meters multiplied by the number of rooms in the shared area, it is possible to have the room area as small as 18 square meters. basic information
■Presence of kitchen and bathroom in common areas Whether to have a kitchen and bathroom in the common areas, based on the premise that they exist, and whether to refrain from installing a kitchen and bathroom in the private rooms. Additionally, whether to install at least a shower room even if a full bathroom is not provided. This will determine where tasks such as washing rags and rinsing buckets will be performed. ■Relationship between toilet, bathroom, and shower room If the washbasin is far from the toilet, a handwashing station must be added inside the toilet, and if there is a bathroom or shower room, the washbasin must be located nearby. ■Usage of the kitchen Depending on the frequency of kitchen use, the following options can be considered: - Not using the kitchen at all (including using the kitchen in the common area) (In this case, the kitchen will not be installed) - Simple cooking such as reheating food, making tea, taking medication, and washing dishes or teacups - Eating meals in the private room - Enjoying meals or tea, nightcaps, etc., using favorite dishes, teacups, and glasses ■Usage of the washbasin Whether to anticipate that staff will assist with hair washing or body cleansing when feeling unwell.
