Expectations for reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection. The receptor for the novel coronavirus (ACE2) has been made into a spray.
If this product binds with the novel coronavirus, there is a possibility that the virus's infectivity may weaken. Additionally, if this product is sprayed on infection protection items such as masks, and the novel coronavirus comes into contact with the ACE2 protein applied, it is expected to capture the virus. Since this is a research reagent, it cannot be used for diagnosis or treatment.

basic information
Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) was known as one of the factors involved in the renin-angiotensin system that regulates blood pressure, but it has recently been revealed that the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, binds to ACE2 present on the cell membrane before being taken up into human cells, suggesting that ACE2 is also a receptor for the novel coronavirus. This reagent corresponds to the extracellular domain of ACE2, and experimental results have reported that similar proteins inhibit the infection of cells by the novel coronavirus.

Applications/Examples of results
By spraying this reagent into the air, there is a possibility that ACE2 will bind to the novel coronavirus present in the droplets, potentially weakening the virus's infectivity. Additionally, if the ACE2 protein is applied by spraying it onto infection protection items such as masks, it is expected to capture the virus when it comes into contact with the novel coronavirus. When spraying on a mask, please ensure to spray on the outer side of the mask. Also, be sure to disinfect with alcohol or similar substances after use. This reagent is for research purposes only and should not be used for the diagnosis or treatment of novel coronavirus infections. Spraying it on the outer surface of the mask in situations such as the following is expected to reduce the amount of virus that passes through the mask: • During commuting on crowded trains or buses • In medical or testing facilities • In customer service roles at financial institutions or government offices • In retail environments such as supermarkets or department stores • In the food service or hospitality industries • During practice of indoor contact sports such as judo or kendo • In any other situations involving close contact.
Detailed information

This reagent expresses the extracellular domain of ACE2 in animal cells, and the recombinant protein secreted into the culture medium was purified using a histidine column, with a theoretical molecular weight of 84.1 kD. Figure 2 shows the results of SDS-PAGE performed under reducing conditions with 430 ng of this reagent. It is believed that the molecular weight has increased due to glycosylation. Figure 3 shows the reaction of the receptor binding domain of the biotin-labeled SARS-CoV-2 virus surface protein (S1 protein) with ACE2 protein fixed on a plastic plate, and the amount of binding was detected using HRP-labeled streptavidin. It has been confirmed that at an ACE2 concentration of 1 μg/mL, it binds to the surface protein (S1 protein) of the novel coronavirus. No such binding was observed when other proteins were fixed on the plastic plate instead of ACE2.
