The "LPD-1" is an OE converter that converts optical signals in the range of 900 to 1650 nm into electrical signals over a wide bandwidth. Simply attach this device to the signal input terminal of an oscilloscope or similar equipment, and connect a fiber optic cable carrying the optical signal you wish to observe to the optical input connector. You can observe the intensity modulation component of the input optical signal.
