I want to introduce vision to robots, but first, to everyone who wants to try it out.
VT (Visual Teach) is a groundbreaking software that allows teaching using actual point cloud data as a master. By teaching the arm movements for a workpiece that has visual information registered as a master, it enables the robot to follow movements even if the position or posture of the workpiece changes, by correcting the robot's reference posture (coordinates). Conventional robot teaching involved installing some form of positioning equipment to prevent the workpiece from shifting, while using a teaching pendant to jog the movements and provide path instructions. VT was developed with the aim of providing a vision system that allows the robot to be operated primarily from the robot's side. This enables robot system integrators to continue integrating systems using teaching pendants as before.

basic information
(1) "VT-Visual Teaching" (a) All basic operations are performed using the teaching pendant. PC operations are kept to a minimum. Path generation is carried out as before using the robot's jog operation. (b) During playback, fine adjustments to the taught positions can be made using jog operation with the teaching pendant. (c) YCAM3D is equipped with a bandpass filter that only allows wavelengths from self-luminous light sources, making it less susceptible to ambient light. Therefore, it can operate stably even in environments with sunlight streaming in, as long as it is within a factory. (d) After robot calibration, system construction can be performed using teaching operations with the teaching pendant without being aware of the camera's presence. Until now, there has been no robot vision system based on such an idea, and a patent application has been completed. (2) Arm-mounted 3D Vision Sensor "YCAM3D" YCAM3D is a 3D vision sensor for robotic arms that is compact, lightweight, and high-precision, while also achieving a low price. It outputs position information of objects with high accuracy due to the incorporation of a unique compact high-output projector and the adoption of a stereo phase shift method. It achieves the world's smallest and lightest 3D vision sensor using the phase shift method.

Applications/Examples of results
<Achievements> Customer: Automotive parts manufacturer (has experience of giving up on a project where a 2D camera was tried but could not accurately detect the position/angle deviation of the workpiece). Application: Depalletizing aluminum castings (7 types, maximum: 15kg) stacked in a mesh pallet using a robot. Workpiece condition: The orientation is the same direction but not positioned. The shaft at the tip of the robot hand is inserted into three holes on the workpiece surface, clamped, and then transferred to the next process. The clearance of the holes on the workpiece surface is approximately 0.5mm. Implementation effects: Reduction in implementation man-hours and surrounding equipment costs, currently operating smoothly. Future development potential: Visual teaching will not be custom-developed for specific applications but can be utilized for various robot applications (assembly, welding, deburring, painting, depalletizing/palletizing, etc.). Currently, it functions as a standalone application, but in the future, it will integrate with (CAD/CAM) → offline teaching (automatically generating optimal robot trajectories) → robots (correction via visual teaching) to achieve ideal zero-stop full automation.
Detailed information
-
The design policy for VT was developed with the aim of providing a vision system that operates under the robot's initiative, even if it's in a gentle manner. This allows robot SIers to continue integrating systems using teaching pendants as before.
