Identifying joints and defective joints! A significant decrease in the transmission pulse of defective joints was observed.
The issue is the bonding defects (delamination between layers) that occur during the plywood lamination process, and the aim is to detect them. We confirmed the condition of the adhesive joints using air-coupled ultrasonic testing. In the case of bonding defects (delamination between layers), the transmitted pulse decreases, allowing us to distinguish between the bonded area (blue) and the defective area (yellow/red) in the testing results. Additionally, the bonding areas of the plywood are less affected by material noise, and the transmission rate is good, making the decrease in the transmitted pulse of the defective areas clearly observable. Our company offers the air-coupled ultrasonic testing device 'GSCAN type.AERO,' which allows for non-destructive testing and image processing of materials without contact. 【Features】 ■ In the experiment, plywood (450mm long × 150mm wide × 18mm high) was prepared, and the transmitting probe and receiving probe were arranged opposite each other, with the plywood placed in between for testing. ■ The transmitted ultrasound passes through the plywood, and the ultrasonic signals are received. ■ In the case of bonding defects, part or all of the ultrasound is obstructed, resulting in a lower height of the received transmitted pulse compared to the sound areas. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
