Until now, due to significant transmission loss to the test specimen, it was not possible to inspect thick materials with high attenuation. However, high-sensitivity inspection has become possible. In the experiment, refractory materials (300mm long × 300mm wide × 75mm thick) were prepared, and artificial defects made of paper with diameters of 18mm and 15mm, simulating cracks and fissures, were attached to check the detection status. As a result, it was found that for the artificial defects of 18mm and 15mm, the height of the transmitted pulse decreased, but sufficient identification from the sound parts was possible.
