Ring springs have a simple shape, but their applications vary from precision components to more general-purpose ring springs. A representative of precision ring springs is the wire ring. Wire rings are important components used in manual clutches of automobiles. They have strict standards for roundness and flatness. Wire rings are welded at the cut ends after being coiled. Since the material of the spring is high-carbon steel, the welded area is very prone to breakage. Therefore, annealing is performed after welding. If the material is iron, sufficient strength can be achieved with welding alone without the need for annealing. In the case of wire rings that are not welded, changes in diameter begin after coiling, so if precise dimensions are required, each ring is individually straightened before shipment. As for general-purpose ring springs, there are double rings used for keychains and pinch rings used for clothespins. Depending on their application, they may or may not undergo heat treatment. Additionally, pinch rings that are coiled in large quantities are formed using dedicated machines for pinch rings.
