A coreless motor is a type of DC motor (both brushed and brushless) that has no iron core in the rotor. In the case of a brushed DC motor, it has a structure where a cup-shaped coil (rotor) is housed inside the housing, with a cylindrical permanent magnet (stator) inside it. Unlike a conventional motor where the rotor is wound with coils around an iron core, the rotor consists only of coils without an iron core, hence it is called "coreless." *It is sometimes referred to as a slotless motor as well. Since there is no iron core, the rotor is lightweight and has a small moment of inertia (low inertia), which results in excellent responsiveness and acceleration. The absence of an iron core also leads to low inductance and very little electrical noise. Additionally, because the rotor itself does not cause changes in magnetic flux, it is cogging-free, resulting in less vibration and noise, and it excels in controllability. It is compact, highly efficient, and is currently one of the most notable technologies. Like cored motors, coreless motors can also be either brushed or brushless.
