Detect abnormal sounds during meat sliding to prevent the mixing of hard bones!
This document introduces examples of measurement systems that determine the presence of hard bone contamination in meat products. Many meat processing centers conduct full inspections using soft X-rays to check for bone fragments in meat. However, if bone fragments are embedded within fat, they cannot be distinguished. Our analysis shows that when bone fragments are sliced by a meat slicer, there is a change in a specific frequency range (sound/vibration). By attaching a vibration sensor to the bearing part of the rotating blade, we can capture this slight change in vibration and determine the presence or absence of bone fragments through FFT 1/3 octave analysis. As automation progresses in production equipment abnormalities and product inspections, "visual" judgments using X-rays and images are generally well-known. However, the "sensory inspection" methods, which involve auditory and tactile assessments traditionally performed by skilled technicians—specifically judgments based on "sound and vibration"—seem to be less recognized. At Elmech, which has over 40 years of experience in the automation and development of sensory inspection systems based on "sound and vibration," we offer measurement and judgment systems capable of addressing various cases, utilizing analytical know-how built on extensive experience and years of technology.

"DAOS" is a software that is well-suited for the analysis of noise and vibration, providing detailed reports on trends, histograms, and other analysis results, while beautifully visualizing the analytical data. It allows for the visualization of analysis results from multiple files, making it easy to distinguish between good and defective products at a glance. Time series data octave analysis and various waveform indicator analyses can be performed easily and quickly. Once the settings are configured, efficient analysis can be conducted simply by selecting files thereafter.
