A system for tallying the judging scores of a surfing competition using Newton and Macintosh.
The original server software created by calling the AppleTalk Manager with CTB allows for the transfer of judges' scores to the server with safe operations of about two actions, using the Newton MessagePad (English version), which happened to be released in Japan at that time. The understanding of this idea by the stakeholders of JPSA is a key point. A LocalTalk cable system connects five Newtons and one Macintosh PowerBook 520. In the connection process between the Newton's EndPoint and the Macintosh's CTB, there are very critical system requirements, including communication buffer overflow, disconnect processing/reconnection during cable failures, and interface considerations.
