With the advent of Industry 4.0 and industrial IoT, there is a growing interest in connecting plant control systems to the cloud. One method for linking devices to the cloud is to collect data using OPC UA and send it to the cloud via an MQTT gateway. While this combination is desirable from a security standpoint, it does not necessarily meet the needs of all users. This document explains the structure of a typical industrial IoT gateway and introduces methods to enhance security.
