[Case Study] Long-term AE Monitoring System in Locations Without Commercial Power Supply

Realizing a power-saving data logger system compatible with high-speed sampling and IoT devices.

【Overview】 ■Purpose: AE observation, microseismic observation ■Category: Measurement equipment ■Related products: High-performance, low-power telemetry ■Scope of provision: Firmware extension, IoT device implementation support 【Background and Challenges】 In remote environments where commercial power and broadband are unavailable, there was a need for a low-power data logger that supports high-speed sampling and IoT devices to enable long-term AE observation with on-site recording and regular condition monitoring. 【Provided Products and Realized System】 The "LT-7700" was chosen as the data logger capable of solving these challenges. Typically, the LT-7700 is often used in telemetry mode, but this time, its low-power functionality in logger mode is beneficial. Although AE is a high-frequency yet subtle vibration phenomenon, the LT-7700 can continuously record sensor signals for extended periods at a maximum sampling rate of 1000Hz. In response to requests from the Earth Science Comprehensive Research Institute, we provided firmware extensions that enable user scripts to be executed and support services for the implementation of IoT devices.
