The shape of the O-ring is fundamentally determined by two dimensions: the "thickness" (outer diameter) of the circular cross-section of the O-ring and the "inner diameter" of the O-ring loop. It is used to prevent the entry and exit of fluids between two components, such as an outer cylinder and an inner cylinder. By creating a groove and making its depth smaller than the thickness of the O-ring, the O-ring is compressed.
