[Case Study] Rapid Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Residual Solvents in Food Packaging
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of residual solvents in food packaging using static headspace connected to GC-FID/MS.
Packaging materials are essential for maintaining the integrity of food and for safe handling, transportation, and storage. Common food packaging materials include polymer-based films and paper-based coatings, which are often layered and printed on the outside with inks, dyes, or coatings for consumer appeal and convenience. The chemical components of such food packaging (particularly those derived from polymers, dyes, and inks) can migrate into food, altering its sensory properties and composition, and potentially posing health risks to consumers. Therefore, regulatory measures are implemented to prevent the migration of food contact material components that could affect human health, alter composition, or change the sensory properties of the product. This application note reports quantitative results of residual solvent analysis in food packaging materials.
