There are many factors said to contribute to galling, such as materials that are prone to galling, differences in thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion rates. However, galling occurs due to the frictional heat generated when the female and male threads rub against each other while tightening the screw, causing the threads to momentarily melt, solidify, and seize. Therefore, the tightening method that generates this frictional heat can be considered the fundamental cause of galling. As a solution, there is a "tensioning method" that allows for fastening without rotation. This fastening method enables tightening and loosening without rotation, thus preventing galling.
