The ends of the rebar are aligned, and while applying pressure in the axial direction of the rebar, the joint area is heated with an oxygen-acetylene flame, bringing the joint surfaces to a red-hot state without melting them, allowing the clean metal surfaces to adhere closely together, and fusing the atoms for a solid joint.
