Measurement of trace amounts of cadmium and lead in water using mercury-free electrodes with voltammetry (VA) and polarography.
Heavy metals, especially cadmium and lead, are extremely harmful to the human body. They can pass through the blood-brain barrier and cause significant damage to the brain and kidneys. Cases of chronic poisoning due to these heavy metals have been frequently reported. Therefore, it is crucial to control the levels of cadmium and lead in drinking water. In many countries (such as CH [1], EU [2], USA [3]), the maximum allowable concentration of cadmium in drinking water is set at 3–5 μg/L, while for lead, it ranges from 5 μg/L [4] to 15 μg/L [3]. The concentrations of these trace elements can be reliably measured using the methods described in this technical document.
