Main Uses ■ Design and Survey of Solar Power Generation Systems To determine the expected power generation at the site, solar resources are identified while considering shading. Solar resources are measured at peak sunlight hours: the amount of solar energy is 1 kilowatt per square meter per day. Peak sunlight hours are influenced by location, time, season, and weather conditions. Using the Fluke IRR1-SOL, actual solar irradiance (watts/m²) and shading at the site are identified to create a baseline. ■ Measurement Once the system is installed, the electrical characteristics of the system and the actual solar output are measured to ensure it operates as designed. The performance of the solar array is based on the current-voltage (IV) curve. Using the IRR1-SOL, the amount of solar irradiance needed to calculate the output IV curve is obtained. ■ Comparison and Diagnosis Even if installed correctly, a solar power generation system may not produce the expected electrical output. To generate the anticipated output, the system must receive the correct amount of irradiance energy and generate the DC voltage supplied to the inverter.
