In October 2021, the Ministry of the Environment announced the revision of environmental standards related to water quality pollution. As a result of this revision, the standards concerning E. coli have been revised from total coliform counts to E. coli counts. The method for measuring E. coli counts is indicated as the so-called membrane filter (MF) method, which uses a membrane filter with a diameter of 47 mm and a pore size of 0.45 µm. In particular, when measuring E. coli counts, it is necessary to "store the sample in a dark place at 0-5°C (not frozen) if testing cannot be performed immediately after sampling, and it is desirable to test within 9 hours, and within 12 hours at the latest." Therefore, a micro funnel that can be used immediately after opening the bag without the need for prior sterilization is recommended.
