We received an inquiry from a company in Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, that develops and manufactures fiber opening devices, stating, "We want to extend the lifespan of the cutting blades used in the fiber opening device for FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic)." Currently, we are using commercially available cutting blades as they are, and to confirm their effectiveness, we have decided to conduct a trial of TiN film coating. Fukui Prefecture has a long-standing textile industry, and it ranks among the top in Japan for shipment value in the textile field, including silk double-weave fabrics and polyester long-fiber fabrics. FRP refers to composite materials that improve strength by incorporating glass fibers or carbon fibers into plastic.
