A thermistor is a type of semiconductor that is a temperature-sensitive resistor, meaning its resistance value changes significantly with temperature variations. In general materials, resistance slightly increases as temperature rises. The NTC thermistors manufactured by Shibaura Electronics have a resistance value that decreases significantly. The following explanation is limited to NTC thermistors. Thermistors are thermal sensing elements made from several types of transition metal oxides primarily composed of Mn, Ni, and Co, and are sintered fine ceramic semiconductors. They cover a usage temperature range of -50 to +500°C, encompassing the entire range needed for everyday temperature control.
