For the differentiation of EHEC!
"Chromagar STEC" produces a purple color for major EHEC strains (such as O157, O26, O111, etc.). On the other hand, "Chromagar O26/O157 (SEL)" can distinctly color and differentiate EHEC O157 (red), EHEC O26 (green), EHEC O111 (reddish-purple to purple), and other E. coli (purple or inhibited growth). In both media, the growth of other intestinal microorganisms is suppressed by a selective agent mixture. The ability to differentiate major serogroups on a single plate is believed to significantly simplify the complex testing of this item. Additionally, this media series includes fractionated media with varying selective strengths compared to SS media. Furthermore, we also offer "CT-SMAC agar medium," which targets only the most frequently isolated serotype O157, "CT-SMAC(SEL)/SS extra fractionated medium," which is a fractionation of SS media, "Chromagar O157," which utilizes enzyme substrates, and "Chromagar O157 TAM," which has been improved to confirm the hydrogen sulfide production of Salmonella.

basic information
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is a pathogenic toxin-producing bacterium that causes severe infections in humans. Diseases caused by this bacterium are accompanied by hemorrhagic diarrhea (hemorrhagic colitis) and may lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The main characteristic of EHEC is the production of Shiga toxin (ST), also known as verotoxin (VT). Under the Infectious Disease Control Law (enacted in 1999), it is classified as a category III infectious disease microorganism and is treated as a causative agent of infections. Additionally, the Manual for Hygiene Management in Large-Scale Cooking Facilities (Notification No. 0618005 from the Food Safety Bureau) mandates regular health check-ups and fecal examinations that include testing for enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) at least once a month. Transitioning from EHEC O157 testing to EHEC testing has made the process quite complicated, as it requires the use of multiple types of culture media (such as CT-SMAC, CT-RMAC, CT-SBMAC, etc.) for EHEC testing.
