It is a floor-mounted movable calorimeter for safely testing the thermal, electrical, and mechanical stress of large battery cells and small modules.

The evaluation of these tests facilitates the assessment of the safety performance of battery cells, enables the definition of the safe operating limits of batteries, and makes it easier to research and develop the mechanisms of thermal runaway and thermal propagation. It is possible to optionally capture footage of battery explosions, conduct nail penetration tests, perform temperature mapping of samples, and sample released gases. This is a large-scale device capable of testing batteries for EV/HEV and aircraft. It is equipped with a container to hold fragments and smoke during sample explosions, an automatic safety valve, and an emergency cooling safety mechanism for automatic shutdown. Evaluating overcharge and discharge rates allows for the determination of maximum safe voltage and maximum safe current. The effects of mechanical stress and external short circuits (ESC) can also be assessed.
