Opsel has a texture similar to soft polyurethane foam, but its physical properties are significantly different, so caution is required. In polyethylene foam, it has a rare structure known as continuous bubbles. Compared to polyurethane, it has a greater number of bubble membranes, which gives it excellent moisture retention. Since it is a single material, it is harmless when burned and does not produce fluorocarbons during production. The raw material, LD polyethylene, does not undergo hydrolysis due to water or temperature, and it is also weather-resistant, allowing it to be used in a wide range of environments. It is extremely stable against acids and alkalis, and due to its abrasion resistance, it is used in parts of cleaners that are wet or in scrubbing pads for floor polishing and car washing. Opsel is a chemically cross-linked continuous bubble polyethylene foam, and the Super Opsel has added functionality as a flame retardant. Both have a lineup of approximately 15 times and 30 times expansion. The Opsel is represented by a three-digit number following LC-, while the Super Opsel is represented by a four-digit number. Like Sanpelka, it has excellent processability and can be subjected to adhesive processing (including washi adhesive), melt processing, cutting, and punching.
