BOTDR (Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry, optical fiber sensor)
6419A・Ceyear Corporation
Simultaneous measurement of strain distribution, loss distribution, and Brillouin scattering spectrum at various locations of the optical fiber.
The 6419A BOTDR can simultaneously measure strain distribution, loss distribution, and Brillouin scattering spectrum at various locations in optical fibers, and can display 3D and multiple distribution parameters. It offers advantages such as high-precision strain measurement, good reproducibility, and single-end non-destructive measurement. It has become an indispensable instrument in the fields of optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensing (OFS). The 6419A can be widely used for health monitoring of bridges, dams, tunnels, high-rise buildings, oil well platforms, and oil pipelines, as well as for predicting and warning of geological hazards such as landslides, mudflows, and earthquakes. It is also applicable for diagnosing intelligent structures such as ships and spacecraft. The 6419A can also be used to measure the strain distribution of optical fiber loops or underwater optical cables during the development, manufacturing, testing process, or when underwater optical cables are in the development, manufacturing, construction, acceptance inspection, and maintenance stages.

Applications/Examples of results
★Monitoring of Submarine Optical Cables To prevent damage to optical fibers due to significant strain, it is necessary to measure the strain distribution of submarine optical fiber cables during the manufacturing, post-arrival checkout, and pre- and post-construction stages. Additionally, communication may be interrupted, potentially causing significant damage. The 6419 can be applied to measure strain distribution at all stages of optical fiber cable manufacturing, transportation, and construction. ★Detection of Geological Disasters (Landslides) By laying optical fibers in critical landslide areas, the 6419 BOTDR can be used to detect the movement of rock masses within the landslide and monitor real-time trends. If strain is significant, operators can set appropriate threshold alarms, allowing them to address the situation in time and avoid major losses due to geological hazards. ★Monitoring of Tunnel Integrity ★Monitoring of Oil Pipelines ★Bridge Monitoring ★Dam Monitoring ★Power Line Monitoring ★Monitoring of Mining Passages ★Monitoring of Oil Well Platforms ★Health Monitoring of High-Rise Buildings ★Typical Experiments
Detailed information
-
The three-dimensional distribution of Brillouin scattering spectra at different locations can be conveniently observed using a 3D display.
-
Multi-window display allows simultaneous observation of strain, Brillouin scattering spectrum, spectral width, and scattering power at various locations along the optical fiber.
-
Long-distance detection: 6419 can detect fiber optic lines up to nearly 80 km.
-
"Spatial resolution of less than 1 meter" By optimizing the optical path, circuit, and data processing model, the spatial resolution of 6419 will be less than 1 meter. In the right diagram, the distance between marker 1 and marker 2 is 1 meter, and the distance between marker 3 and marker 4 is 0.5 meters.
-
High-Precision Strain Testing Under a pulse width of 10 ns, the strain testing accuracy of the 6419BOTDR reaches ±18 με at a distance of 11 km.
