The proposal from a joint team of Boeing, RPMI, and Hexagon, aimed at realizing hypersonic aircraft, was selected in the "Technology Development Proposal Using 3DP" publicly solicited by America Makes, a U.S. 3D printing promotion organization. The AFRL (U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory) will invest \$500,000 (65 million yen), and the three companies will advance the development of applications for hypersonic aircraft using 3D printing under the MAGMA Project. Hypersonic aircraft are being developed primarily by the U.S. Air Force and NASA, aiming for operation at speeds of Mach 5 and above. The evaluation of RPMI's achievements in support-less, free-form fabrication using 5-axis robot control with DED (Directed Energy Deposition) technology led to the adoption of this application development using 3D printing.
