Waterproof rubber is designed to withstand the water pressure of dams and sluices, as well as prolonged exposure to sunlight and air (ozone), so the materials are selected and formulated to endure such harsh conditions. The main materials used are CR (chloroprene rubber), which has high average values for weather resistance and chemical resistance, and NR (natural rubber), which is derived from the sap of the rubber tree. Additionally, there are composite versions that not only use CR or NR alone but also bond resins to the rubber.
