We provide comprehensive support from product development for new businesses to the development of mass production technologies.
Building a new product development strategy by backcasting from mass production technology.
In new business development, if a project cannot clear the issues of quality, cost, and investment during mass production, it cannot be commercialized (as a management decision), or we have seen cases where even if it is commercialized, it does not last long (crossing Darwin's sea). Therefore, we realized that the idea of backcasting the commercialization process is effective. (Ideal state during mass production ⇒ product development ⇒ necessary product development ⇒ necessary technology development ⇒ necessary research and development) To realize that idea, information on mass production technology and equipment technology is needed, and our company possesses processing technologies for plastics, semiconductors, glass, and copper/aluminum materials. As open innovation progresses in the future, selecting technologies that our company does not have and the companies that possess them will become important. We would like to support that.

basic information
I retired and am now working as a technical advisor as a sole proprietor. My career includes 26 years at Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. in the corporate production technology department, where I served as the head of the production technology development center for 5 years. I have been involved in the development of manufacturing processes and equipment for optical fibers for 26 years, as well as the development of deposition equipment for epitaxial films of compound semiconductors, contributing to all of Furukawa Electric's business areas. From 2010 to 2016, I was appointed as a director and executive officer to rebuild the business of a subsidiary, Tokyo Special Wire Co., Ltd., where I concurrently held the positions of head of research and development, head of equipment, head of cost reduction, and head of intellectual property. I successfully rebuilt the subsidiary, which had been in the red for 10 years, in just 3 years. My role involved using VM methods to achieve a 2.5% annual cost reduction in the factory, contributing to the reconstruction. After that, I focused on developing new businesses to expand the streamlined business scale. I took the lead in developing four new products in four different fields. During that time, I experienced the challenges of launching new businesses and learned the importance of internal cooperation systems and collaboration with external partners (open innovation). I established this company with the desire to support those responsible for developing new businesses and innovating existing ones.

Applications/Examples of results
In the field of fluid engineering, leveraging the expertise of Tanetsu Takagaku, the following developments were carried out during my time in the corporate sector: 1. Development of the manufacturing process and value-added manufacturing of optical fibers: 1) Developed equipment for synthesizing glass microparticles, a dehydration and vitrification device for soot, a preform stretching device, a drawing device, and the manufacturing process for optical fiber filaments. 2) Features of the optical fiber equipment: - A carbon heating furnace that heats quartz glass to over 2000°C - A vitrification furnace that sinters glass microparticles in a high-temperature halogen atmosphere - Equipment for synthesizing and depositing microparticles at high speed - Coating technology for uniformly applying optical fibers at high speed - A winding device for continuous winding 2. Development of compound semiconductor film deposition equipment (epitaxial film deposition equipment for GaAs) 3. Development of an inline defect and dimension measurement system for wire bodies 4. Development of connection technology for electric wires and terminals, and reliability evaluation technology 5. Development of precision laser stripping technology and equipment for electric wires 6. Development of double-sided FPC substrates Furukawa Electric is a Tier 1 supplier for wire harnesses, so we also worked on the development of connection technology for electric wires and inline inspection equipment during wire manufacturing. Our mission was to develop processes, create equipment, innovate manufacturing lines, enhance quality and productivity, and achieve competitive advantage.
Company information
The D&T Lab focuses on supporting research, development, design, and prototyping for manufacturing process engineering (design) and production technology development (technology). Particularly in the case of new businesses, it is necessary to introduce technologies that the company does not possess and to select and collaborate with partner companies. By utilizing so-called open innovation, we aim to shorten the marketing and product/service development periods, facilitate early entry into new fields and applications, and establish a unique strategy for the company using that information and technology to promote the business in earnest. Once we reach that stage, operations can be managed similarly to existing businesses. Therefore, the challenges of new ventures depend on how efficiently and effectively we design the entry stage. At that stage, it is necessary to gather information and technologies that the company does not possess and to make choices that are suitable for the company. I have experience in the development and launch of mass production equipment and the introduction of new products into factories. From the successes and failures I encountered, I have learned how to design mass production lines and introduce new products in my own way. Additionally, I possess processing techniques for various materials such as copper products, compound semiconductors, quartz glass, and plastics. I will contribute using the insights gained from these mass production technologies and material processing techniques.
