This is software that can estimate the tire and road surface friction of the currently installed tires just by adding one piece of software to existing vehicles!
The "Tire Grip Indicator (TGI)" is a software solution that does not require additional sensors. By analyzing wheel speed signals and other onboard sensors, it continuously monitors the friction between the tires and the road surface, providing accurate values of the friction coefficient while considering the characteristics of both the road surface and the tires. 【Features】 - Estimates the tire-road friction coefficient well before the ABS, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), and traction control systems react, under normal driving conditions. - Using the potential maximum friction coefficient values, it is possible to accurately calculate how much friction can be utilized. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*

basic information
The vehicle ultimately controls the power transmitted to the tires and acts on the road surface, making the road surface friction coefficient a very important parameter. Since it provides fundamental information for vehicle control, information about the road surface friction coefficient can be utilized in various applications, potentially yielding multiple benefits. 【High Friction → Low Friction】 - Activation of AWD and optimization of torque distribution - Control of ACC's following distance and speed, or suggestions for the driver to disengage ACC - Adapting the timing for collision mitigation brake control based on road surface slipperiness - Blending regenerative braking with disc brakes according to the road surface friction coefficient - Adapting ABS control logic separately for summer tires and winter tires - Displaying the current road surface friction coefficient to the driver through infotainment - Saving battery consumption through optimization of 2WD/AWD control TGI can estimate the road surface friction coefficient using only the information flowing on the CAN-Bus, so it is not limited by processing power, recording capacity, or security requirements, and does not require specific installation locations.

Detailed information
-
The road surface mu is a physical coefficient that occurs between the road surface and the tire, so it varies depending on both the road surface and the tire. At TGI, we are elevating the information obtained from the vehicle's behavior to the information of road surface mu by building characteristic data of the currently mounted tires internally.
-
The data on tire characteristics built internally is directly linked to summer tires and studless tires. TGI can not only detect the road surface friction but also determine whether the currently mounted tire is a summer tire or a studless tire, enabling brake control and steering control based on tire type.

This friction circle represents the positive side in the Y direction as the acceleration force and the negative side as the braking force, while the left and right in the X direction represent the cornering forces. The outer edge of this circle, shaded in red, indicates the area where the tire slips, and it is also the area where friction can be estimated in modern vehicles. The challenge is to apply control to ensure stable driving before the tire slips. This diagram shows that the TGI operates near the center of the friction circle, allowing it to output the peak value of tire grip from minimal acceleration and braking forces. It is possible to monitor slippery conditions before the car starts to skid.
