Measurement of volatile acids and alkalinity! Related online titration devices are also listed.
In the multi-stage process of anaerobic digestion, various types of bacteria first convert complex organic compounds into volatile fatty acids (VFA), and finally into biogas (methane). To achieve optimal results, the pH of the digester should be between 6.5 and 7.5; however, merely measuring the pH is not sufficient. To ensure sustainable and safe operation, adequate buffering capacity (Total Alkalinity, TAC) is necessary to compensate for changes in acid concentration. A digester that becomes too acidic is harmful to bacteria, especially methane-producing bacteria. The occurrence of abnormal conditions due to low pH can be very costly to address, and re-seeding the digester can take a long time. Therefore, measuring the ratio of VFA to TAC serves as a good indicator of the actual state of the digester. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.*
