With the increasing demand for high precision in small motors, rotation detection of operation dials, and linear actuators, the need for compact position detection has been growing. The digital 2-phase output type optical reflective encoders NJL5821R and NJL5822R achieve low power consumption by combining newly designed photodetector ICs with high-output infrared LEDs. In conventional position detection for linear and rotational directions, it was necessary to adjust the distance between the sensor and the stripe mirror to a constant. The NJL5821R and NJL5822R achieve strong resistance to distance variations by uniquely processing the light reception level of the photodetector.
