This is a fire alarm with earthquake detection. It is usually installed indoors as a fire alarm, and when it detects an earthquake, the LED lights up and can be used as a flashlight. We received a request from a sensor manufacturer who wanted to develop their own product but felt that their internal design engineers were insufficient. After receiving the project from the client, we incorporated their requests while holding meetings, and we handled everything from product design, casing, circuitry, to mold arrangement. ◆Background of Introduction The installation of smoke detectors is mandatory in bedrooms. This product is an innovative item that combines the functions of a smoke detector with the ability to serve as a flashlight during an earthquake while sleeping. Development was carried out at the request of a manufacturer of earthquake detection sensors. They mentioned that while they have components (vibration sensors) for businesses, there were no products available for general consumers, leading to a proposal for a consumer-oriented product using their sensors. ◆Solution Our company provided design proposals and handled everything from housing design, circuit design, prototyping, to mold production. In terms of functionality, we devised a wall-mounting method that allows for easy removal in a bedroom at night. Inside the housing, battery terminals, sensors, and circuit boards are installed, but thanks to the design of the upper and lower housing cases, we avoided using a sliding type in the mold structure. This helps to keep initial costs down. ◆Effect While we did not reach the target initial cost, we were able to reduce it to some extent.
