Realizing a mechanism in a small space - switch the connection direction of the gears using only the rotation direction of the motor!
This is a drive module used in mobile phones that slide open and closed electrically. It has two gears, one for the open side and one for the closed side, and these two gears swing around a sun gear to switch the sliding direction. We undertook the project at the request of an appliance manufacturer, from brainstorming ideas to mechanical design and prototyping. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

basic information
◆Background of Introduction The manual sliding type was common, but to enhance the sense of luxury, an electric opening and closing type was desired. Additionally, there were significant restrictions on size and weight as a mobile phone. ◆Solution Typically, a separate actuator for switching between forward and reverse motion is required for power transmission. This increases the number of parts and the space needed for the mechanism, which does not fit within the required size for this project. Therefore, we adopted a mechanism that switches the direction of gear connection solely based on the rotation direction of the motor (forward/reverse). Additionally, to prevent damage from overload when directly connected to the motor, a function to disengage the gear connection has also been implemented. ◆Effect This resulted in a slide module with fewer parts that occupies less space. Furthermore, it has become a slide module that considers safety measures, such as preventing mechanical damage.
