Water and oil repellency refers to the property of a substrate surface that repels water and oil. Water does not spread and wet the surface of the material, but instead forms into droplets, which is the state of water repellency.
When a water-repellent coating is applied to fibers, it is coated with a thin film and does not cover all the fabric's weave, which is an advantage in terms of breathability. However, when high pressure is applied to the water, it may seep through the fabric's weave to the backside. The difference between water-repellent and waterproof To briefly explain the difference between water-repellent and waterproof, water-repellent means repelling water as described above, while waterproof means not allowing water to pass through. In other words, a state where water does not pass through is "waterproof," and a state where water is repelled on the surface is "water-repellent." Advantages and disadvantages of water-repellent processing - Advantages The advantage of water-repellent processing is that it does not fill the gaps in the material, allowing for breathability. Therefore, it is often used in down jackets and coats when one wants to avoid getting wet from a small amount of rain without compromising comfort. - Disadvantages Since water-repellent processing is only superficial, as mentioned above, during heavy rain, water pressure may cause water to seep into the material's interior.

basic information
■Reasons for the low friction coefficient of fluoropolymer TFE - The strong atomic bonds within TFE molecules reduce the intermolecular forces with the contacting material. - Friction (sliding) causes TFE molecules to adhere slightly to the counterpart material, resulting in sliding between TFE molecules. - The surface of TFE molecules has fewer irregularities and a smooth structure. - The orientation of TFE molecules makes it easier to alleviate friction resistance. For these reasons, fluoropolymer TFE is considered to have excellent lubricity. ■Low-friction coating using fluoropolymer coating Fluoropolymers can be applied as a coating on surfaces such as metals. By applying a fluoropolymer coating, the characteristics of the fluoropolymer can be utilized in components and equipment, making products easier to slide and providing lubricity to parts of devices, which is expected to improve productivity and prevent process troubles. ■Coating with good sliding properties Minoru Industries' [Fluoropolymer Coating] improves the sliding properties of rubber products, which are generally considered to be difficult to slide, by using a technology that creates a convex surface on the coated area, thereby reducing the contact area.
