In CAE, calculations are not performed using the 3D data itself, but rather by replacing it with elements called meshes to calculate deformation and stress. It is said that the finer the mesh, the higher the accuracy of the deformation and stress calculations. Meshes come in various shapes and sizes, but in 3D shapes, hexagonal meshes and tetrahedral meshes are the two main types. Hexagonal meshes are composed of hexahedra and are said to have high calculation accuracy. Tetrahedral meshes are composed of tetrahedra, and while their calculation accuracy is inferior, they provide a higher degree of shape reproduction.
