The frame is a simple structure that consists of four stainless steel pipes welded together at only three points, with a molded plywood back and seat shaped by a three-dimensional curve, bolted together with rubber mounts in between. Instead of molding the back and seat as a single piece, it is intentionally designed as two separate parts to allow the rubber mounts to effectively absorb loads and impacts. The first product was commercialized by Evans Products Company, where Charles Eames was employed at the time. Due to the organic shape of the curves in the back and seat, it has the nickname "the potato chip chair." It is not an exaggeration to say that the achievements of Charles and Ray Eames began with the material of molded plywood, with the concept focused on developing products that could be produced cheaply and in large quantities. Eames' philosophy as a designer was to provide "useful things" to as many people as possible; the question remains whether this philosophy is still carried on in modern times. *The product is a reproduction imported and sold by E-comfort.
